‘The Lost Desmond Castles in the Manor of Castleisland’

As part of Culture Night, Robert McGuire will present a new documentary which will explore the forgotten Desmond Castles within the Manor of Castleisland.

Robert has completed extensive research into the history of Castleisland Castle, which was the main Desmond fortress in the area. He recently researched, produced and presented a documentary entitled ‘The Castle of the Island’. It will be released over the coming months.

Meanwhile, Robert- who holds a MA in Archaeology from UCC, has more recently explored the history of several ‘forgotten’ castles, which were once within the Desmond Fitzgerald controlled Manor of the Island of Kerry.

This documentary will include spectacular drone footage of the Castleisland landscape, as well as footage of each castle in the area, including historical maps, amongst other key research material. I hope you can join us for this special event to mark Culture Night.
