The seventh and final webinar of 2020 was delivered by Dr. Patricia O’Hare and is entitled ‘The Story of Christmas’.
This webinar explores the history and development of the Festival of Christmas, it is set against the backdrop of the deep midwinter, a festival which has continuously changed and evolved down through the centuries. Dr. O Hare examines the history behind many of our ‘traditional’ Christmas customs, in particular the role played by the Victorians in reshaping and remoulding this festival.
Dr. O Hare’s quote best describes the nature of the lecture ‘relaxing in our warm, well-lit, modern homes, we will consider the importance of Christmas in formerly helping to dispel the gloom and isolation of dark winter nights’.
Overall, it promises to be an enthralling and charming webinar and a most appropriate way to complete 2020.
